Quirky Kid supported the 2017 Australian Psychological Society Educational and Developmental Psychology National Conference in Brisbane as a Gold sponsor, bringing its psychology, publishing and school-based work into a national professional forum.
The conference was held on 7 July 2017 at Rydges South Bank in Brisbane under the theme Learn well, live well… throughout life.
The APS conference archive records the event as a national meeting for researchers and practitioners in educational and developmental psychology, with keynote presentations, professional sessions, workshops and sponsorship opportunities.
Supporting professional learning in child development
Quirky Kid’s involvement reflected the organisation’s close connection with educational and developmental psychology, particularly work spanning children’s mental health, learning, school wellbeing and social and emotional development.
As part of the conference exhibition, Quirky Kid presented psychologist-developed resources and programs including The Best of Friends®, Power Up! and other materials used in schools, clinics and family settings.
Connecting practice, publishing and professional development
By 2017, Quirky Kid was operating across clinical psychology, educational publishing and school programs. Supporting the APS conference created an opportunity to connect those areas directly with psychologists working in research, education and practice.
The event also followed earlier professional contributions by Dr Kimberley O’Brien to APS educational and developmental psychology conferences, including presentation of her doctoral research in 2011.
