Quirky Kid showcased its psychology, social-emotional learning and emerging digital work at the University of Wollongong’s 2018 iAccelerate Demo Day, presenting alongside other businesses from the university-backed innovation community.
The event was held on 9 November 2018 at the iAccelerate Centre on UOW’s Innovation Campus in North Wollongong. It gave resident companies an opportunity to present their work to the community, investors, business leaders, media and other organisations involved in the regional startup ecosystem.
UOW’s 2018 Annual Report records the November Demo Day as an event where iAccelerate residents showcased their businesses to investors, business leaders and the wider community.
Showing how psychology could reach further
Quirky Kid used Demo Day to share work spanning child psychology, educational publishing, social and emotional learning and technology-enabled support for families.
By 2018, the organisation had already developed award-recognised programs including The Best of Friends® and Basecamp®, while also exploring digital models that could extend psychological support beyond traditional clinic settings.
Part of the iAccelerate journey
Quirky Kid had joined UOW’s iAccelerate program in 2016 to strengthen the commercial and operational capability needed to scale its psychology, publishing and digital work.
Later that year, Quirky Kid was named Panel Choice runner-up at the iAccelerate Pitch Grand Final. Demo Day 2018 provided another opportunity to demonstrate how those ideas had developed.
The original Quirky Kid event record also preserved local media coverage through a WIN News Illawarra video, reflecting wider interest in the businesses and innovations being developed through the Wollongong program.
From innovation program to longer-term growth
The iAccelerate period became one strand in a broader Quirky Kid growth story that later included independent university evaluation, government capability-building grants and continued development of digital psychology services.

Demo Day remains a useful company milestone because it captures a period when Quirky Kid was actively testing how its clinical expertise could be translated into products, programs and technology with broader reach.
