About This Webinar

Encopresis, more commonly called “soiling”, is a debilitating condition to deal with as a parent because it usually occurs when children are past the age of toilet training. While encopresis is a complex problem amongst many families, it is treatable. The majority of children with encopresis can be effectively treated with a combination of medical, psychological and dietary interventions.

In this webinar for child and play therapists, Educational and Developmental Psychologist Dr Kimberley O'Brien will outline the diagnostic features, causes and treatment of encopresis. Behavioural approaches will be highlighted, including how play therapy activities can be incorporated so that children will be more motivated to comply with the treatment protocol.

Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the behavioural causes and maintenance of encopresis
  • Explain the treatment approach of encopresis
  • Describe four play therapy activities that can be integrated into behavioural treatment.
