Hi, I am a year 12 student doing Design & Technology. For my Major Design Project I will be designing a kit to encourage 4 year olds to brush their teeth regularly. It would be greatly appreciated if you could respond to my questions.

    1. I would like to include an encouragement component which uses a reward system e.g. a sticker chart. could you please advise whether this will be an effective system in modifying bad habits & encouraging the children to brush their teeth?

    2. My research has identified that 4 year olds respond to action hereos and fairytale heroines. Can you please confirm that this would be an appropriate statedgy to include in the kit.

    3. How important are the use of illustrations, colour, shape and texture in getting a young child to repond to encouragment?

    4. As a pyschologist what would you suggest should go into this encouragment kit?
Thankyou so much for taking the time to answer my Questions!

    Hi Lilian,

I am not a Psychologist but I am involved on the developed of the Quirky Kid's range of Therapeutic resources and here are some points about 4 year's old for you to consider:

Children at this age like to copy adults and older children. They are also very curious and have more developed motor skills. They also like to play with other children and may prefer gender-appropriated roles. At the age of 4 they can think logically and can be ahead of their physical abilities. They are also becoming interested in writing words.

Kimberley may have a chance to reply to your questions in more details soon.

    Good luck with your assigment
    Kind regards
