I am a senior high school student doing a project on the teddy bear. Does anyone know how it has affected us psychologically? ie, in our mental development?
How do psychologists use the teddy with children? And so on.
I hope someone can answer my questions before Monday 7th June as my project is due then.
Thanks!!
Hi,
Thanks for your query re: teddy bears and their psychological impact on children.
In brief, the teddy bear is commonly a comfort toy for children under the age of 5 years. Often the teddy bear is used to supplement attachment figures, such as parents, when young children are required to separate from their parents. This may occur when toddlers commence day care or when they sleepover at a grandparent's home. The familiar teddy bear provides the child with reassurance and tactile support when the child needs to settle down to sleep or if they are distressed.
Most children no longer require the comfort toy from 3-4 years and beyond as they learn to self-sooth or settle themselves in the absence of an attachment figure.
I hope this helps your assignment.
